Vertical Neighborhood

This image from a Dwell Blog re. the proposal by Axis Mundi for a new tower in NYC suggests these ideas are taking hold. Comments on that posting demonstrate how difficult it is to break with conventional thought.

In Hudson Heights, in one of those old apartment buildings with a shared common park space, grills, a gym, a shared guest apartment, and a shared responsibility for the maintenance of the common space people say "amenities" and love it. In midtown with some theory laid on it, people call it "tramp architecture" and compare it to the Favella.
